Parachuting Trainer Killed After Falling Without Safety Gear in Music City
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the death of a parachuting trainer following he became separated from his client during a dive in Music City, TN.
Authorities report instructor the instructor "is presumed to have fallen from the air without a parachute" during the dive on Saturday.
Fuller, 35 years old, seems to have detached from his client and a dual harness, which connects the two during a dive and contains the safety gear.
A law enforcement aircraft found Fuller's body in a forested zone some time after. Local emergency crews used several ladders to reach the 46-year old student who lived through the fall after being stuck on a tree for hours with the emergency parachute.
Officials stated several additional jumps, which occurred near Nashville's John C Tune airport, were successfully completed prior to the deadly incident. Aircraft from which they jumped also landed safely.
The cause remains unknown how the instructor, an seasoned parachutist, became separated from the protective gear.
A individual who helped rescue teams in the operation told a local television station the client who officials rescued mentioned "it was his first jump, and it was going to be his last".
Mr Fuller had recently written about his passion for instructing people how to parachute.
"Instructing individuals to skydive has consistently been in my view the most rewarding role at the drop zone," Mr Fuller said in an social media update in the summer.
"Watching them learn the skills and begin maneuvering their selves is consistently a touching moment. Sometimes though, it can become quite chaotic up there when you let someone go for their first time."
During that period he posted images of the wreckage a skydiving plane he was on noting the plane's engine had failed after departure. All 20 people onboard survived.
