Overwhelmed HK Locals in Disbelief as Large-Scale Blaze Destroys Housing Blocks

"Moving near the scene, the temperature intensifies and you can sense it, with the fumes being particularly thick."

University student Thomas Liu was among the numerous people drawn to the scene of a fatal inferno that engulfed significant parts of the eight-building residential estate in the city's Tai Po area.

A minimum of over three dozen residents have lost their lives in the recent catastrophic inferno so far, with hundreds still missing, indicating that this figure will likely rise.

"We're facing a catastrophe," Thomas remarked about the blaze, adding that he had seen a victim being transported from the area.

More than a thousand further people were forced to evacuate the development as the blaze advanced, with several going to established centers that have been organized to shelter them.

The blaze is progressively being contained, but authorities report they are uncertain when it will be completely extinguished.

Blazes could be observed emanating from separate apartments as countless onlookers looked on in quiet.

"I am devastated. The building contains so numerous neighbors and community members. I do not know what is occurring anymore. Look, all the apartments are just ablaze. I am unsure what to accomplish. I wish the authorities can assist us to settle down after this."

One local woman explained that her acquaintances live inside the complex and she was remaining to discover if they managed to evacuate.

Harry Cheung, who has dwelled in block two of the residential estate for more than forty years, mentioned hearing "a very loud noise" and witnessing fire erupt in a close structure.

"I immediately went back to pack up my things," the 66-year-old inhabitant commented.

"I don't even know how I personally at this moment. I'm just considering about where I'm going to stay tonight because I probably cannot go return to my home."

Even though the origin of the inferno that consumed the multiple tall blocks remains undetermined, the flames are believed to have spread quickly through the temporary structures that enveloped the buildings, which were experiencing improvements.

Several residents have demonstrated frustration that such a massive incident could have taken place and questioned the reaction.

"In cases where there's a brush fire, they will employ helicopters and drop fire retardant, but why is there not any deployment and how can they allow further structures on fire?" inquired a different resident of the complex.

"This area is so proximate to the fire station and we believed the inferno could be controlled rapidly, but now the blaze has expanded. I'm so disappointed," she explained.

She stated that she had been given no instructions from the local administration on where to obtain support.

Multiple local inhabitants had provided necessities to the affected individuals - consisting of dozens of warm layers and warming devices.

Upon questioning about their feelings regarding the tragedy, residents voiced that "authorities is ineffective" and that they were "extremely devastated".

"We hope not to witness any more victims," remarked a resident.

An older lady who resides in one of the damaged blocks stated she was away when the blaze started but that she is worried about her apartment because it is without coverage.

"I'm profoundly troubled that I have no home to go to currently," she remarked.
